These crispy, golden triangles are filled with flavorful ingredients and wrapped in delicate warqa or phyllo dough. In this recipe, we’ll make a simple and tasty version of Briouat filled with almonds and honey, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients:

  • 200g ground almonds
  • 100g powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp orange blossom water
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • 10 sheets of phyllo dough (or warqa)
  • 100g honey
  • 1 egg yolk (for sealing)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, mix the ground almonds, powdered sugar, cinnamon, orange blossom water, and melted butter until well combined.

  2. Shape the Briouat: Cut the phyllo dough into long strips (about 5 cm wide). Place a small amount of almond filling at one end and fold the strip into a triangle shape, continuing until fully wrapped. Seal the edge with egg yolk.

  3. Fry the Briouat: Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the Briouat until golden brown and crispy, then drain on paper towels.

  4. Coat with Honey: Warm the honey slightly, then dip the fried Briouat into the honey, ensuring they are well coated.

  5. Serve and Enjoy! Let the Briouat cool slightly before serving. These sweet treats pair perfectly with mint tea.

Tips:

  • If you prefer baking, brush the Briouat with butter and bake at 180°C (350°F) until golden.
  • Add sesame seeds on top for extra crunch and flavor.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
