Homemade Margherita Pizza Recipe

Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
For the sauce:
- 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp dried oregano (optional)
For the topping:
- 200g (7 oz) fresh mozzarella, sliced
- Fresh basil leaves
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a small bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, then mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Make the Sauce
- In a pan, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the garlic for about 30 seconds.
- Add crushed tomatoes, salt, and oregano. Simmer for 10 minutes, then remove from heat and let it cool.
Step 3: Assemble the Pizza
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a baking sheet or pizza stone inside to heat up.
- Roll out the dough into a 12-inch circle and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
